Mitch,

Here is an extract of the article I mentioned.  It appeared in the July 28th edition of the Messenger Press.

Some local towns see crime increase
By: Lauren Burgoon and Marisa Maldonado, Staff Writers 07/28/2005

2004 Uniform Crime Report outlines crime totals for every New Jersey town and shows increase in crime rate for Upper Freehold, Plumsted and Millstone.    The 2004 Uniform Crime Report released last week by state police provided some welcome news for Allentown, Washington and Roosevelt by showing that crime fell slightly compared to 2003. Conversely, Upper Freehold, Plumsted and Millstone all saw their crime rates rise last year.

Plumsted
"Plumsted experienced the steepest increase in crime of any local municipality in this newspaper's coverage area." The 68 reported crimes in 2004 reflect an increase of almost 40 percent from the previous year.   Violent crime remained steady at seven incidents, with all of those being aggravated assaults, in 2004. In 2003, there were six reported aggravated assaults and one rape. Nonviolent crimes rose from 42 in 2003 to 61 in 2004. There were 19 burglaries, 32 larcenies and 10 motor vehicle thefts last year compared to 10 burglaries, 26 larcenies and 6 motor vehicles the previous year.   Domestic violence incidents were down slightly, with 43 reported last year. There also was one arson and two bias crimes.
