US Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr.
was in Plumsted Township Tuesday, October 28 to endorse two candidates for
Plumsted Township Committee – Mitch Geier and Don Knause.
Congressman Pallone and candidates Geier and Knause met with the press at
Oakford Lake in downtown New Egypt. Oakford Lake was chosen for the event to
highlight environmental issues in Plumsted. Congressman Pallone is a strong
environmentalist and he is endorsing the candidates based on their commitment
to the environment as well as their pledge to reduce property taxes for the
citizens of Plumsted.
Geier and Knause support bringing sewers into downtown New Egypt to both
facilitate the downtown revitalization and based on the environmental
concerns. “Lack of sewers in the downtown is a serious concern due to the
spill off into Oakford Lake,” states Knause. “Septic systems in our downtown
are a real problem from an environmental standpoint.”
Geier adds, “We definitely need sewers downtown. We have to achieve this goal
without further burdening the taxpayers. We are committed to finding funding
sources that don’t result in higher property taxes. We also don’t believe the
answer lies in bringing in big development to pay for sewers as the current
administration is trying to do. This would only increase traffic and
development, which we don’t believe serves our community.”
Candidates Geier and Knause are running on the campaign slogan of A Change for
the Better and have entered the race with the primary goal of decreasing this
community’s skyrocketing property taxes. Both candidates are strong advocates
for environmental issues as well as farm and open land preservation.
Don Knause has supported environmental issues for many years. During his
tenure in office he fought the NJ State DEP – his own employer – to protect
Colliers Mill from becoming a dumping ground for radioactive material. Don has
also worked, as a member of the Municipal Utility Authority, to bring in
sewers to downtown New Egypt. Mitch Geier is a strong supporter of
environmental issues and has volunteered in wildlife rescue for much of his
adult life.
