Geier and Knause Stay Focused on Reducing Property Taxes

A recent press release by the Plumsted Republican Club attacked candidate Don Knause’s record when he was in office well over a decade ago.  The political group, in support, of this administration’s incumbent candidates, accused Mr. Knause of being responsible for the Township Clerk who was “indicted and convicted of embezzlement” as well as other sundry offenses during his tenure.

Knause states, “I’m deeply disappointed that our opponents would try to distort the facts as they have.  I can only imagine that they feel quite threatened by Mitch Geier and myself.”

When Knause served his term, he was the only Democrat serving on a Republican-dominated committee.  Knause continues, “For this club and the incumbents to criticize anything during my term, can only be a criticism of the Republican-dominated committee at that time.  Every vote was always in the control of the Republican committee members who dominated the committee votes.”

Candidate Mitch Geier states, “For our opponents to attempt to besmirch Don Knause’s good name is a low blow.  The Township Clerk, who was indicted and convicted of embezzlement, was appointed by the Republican Committee before Mr. Knause ever took office.  To suggest, in any way, that Don was a part of this illegal activity is unethical and an act of desperation.  Everyone who knows Don, knows that he is a highly principled and ethical man.”

Geier continues, “Don and I are committed to staying focused on the issues that affect this community today.  The primary issue is our skyrocketing property taxes, which went up 14% in this year alone.  The Geier and Knause team plan to make this our number one priority.”

Knause notes, “The Township Committee has a significant impact on our taxes. They are totally responsible for our municipal taxes. They are completely responsible for the school budget when it is voted down, as it was this year. And they are responsible for bringing in good, clean ratable businesses that defray our tax dollars and bring much needed services to our community. This administration has had 13 years of rule and has done a horrible job with all of these issues. It is time for a ‘change for the better’!”

The Geier and Knause campaign also recently announced several prominent endorsements by U.S. Senator Jon Corzine and U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg.
