Jon Corzine, U.S. Senator for New Jersey, has endorsed candidates Mitch Geier and Don Knause who are running for Plumsted Township Committee.
“Don and I are thrilled to have Senator Corzine’s endorsement, states Mitch Geier. We share Senator Corzine’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and fair taxation, so his endorsement is especially appreciated.
We are passionate about and committed to reducing our property taxes that have been skyrocketing. Property taxes have increased 93% in the last 10 years and 14% just in this last year. If the increases continue at this rate, none of us will be able to afford to live here.”
Knause continues, “I’ve lived in Plumsted for years and am appalled by our outrageous property taxes. This administration keeps boasting about Plumsted’s ‘stable tax rates.’ I don’t know about you, but I’ve never written a check out to a ‘tax rate.’ Our taxes are skyrocketing and Mitch and I are running for office to stop that.
The Township Committee has a huge impact on property taxes. They directly control the municipal budget. They directly control the school budget when the original budget is voted down, as it was this year. They dramatically impact taxes by how effective they are at attracting good, clean businesses to our community. This brings in much needed services and decreases the taxes homeowners need to pay. Our current administration has done a horrible job at all of this.”
Geier and Knause are running on the campaign slogan of A Change for the Better. Don Knause serviced on the Township Committee from 1986 to 1989 and is a retired investigator for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. Mitch Geier is a local businessman and has a long history of taxpayer advocacy and education support.
